MURTALA Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, yesterday suffered a complete power blackout that lasted for more than one hour. This was the climax of intermittent electricity power supply the airport has experienced this past week.
A source at the airport told Vanguard that the airport has been experiencing epileptic power supply for more than a week and efforts are been made to restore normal power supply through the airport stand-by generators that have been overworked.
It will be recalled that MMIA has experienced similar power outages in the past. On one occasion, a major tragedy was averted when a 45-minute power outage left many people trapped in lifts with some of them gasping for breath. That incident happened at about 12.30 p.m. when many airport users were in the lifts of the six-storey building, leading to chaos and panic.
Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, has also experienced similar power outages.
