At least six soldiers on operation were killed when a suicide bomber ran into military patrol van on Tuesday evening in the city of Maiduguri, Borno State capital, eyewitnesses said.
“The corpses were six in number; all of them soldiers. They were taken into the hospital and immediately the
military came to evacuate them to the barracks,” said an official of the state’s General Hospital.
The hospital official told Premium Times that the corpses were taken away in two military patrol vehicles.
But the spokesperson of the Joint Task Force, JTF, Sagir Musa, is claiming that the suicide attack did not kill up to six soldiers.
Lieutenant Colonel Musa, in a statement said “a remote control Improvised Explosive Device planted by terrorists, targeted at JTF patrol vehicles exploded at First Bank/Mr Bigs Round About in Maiduguri city at about 12:15 pm today Tuesday, 19 March, 2013.”
He confirmed there was a casualty and some where also injured. Arrestshave been made.
