Anambra women under the umbrella of the Anambra Women Organisation, ANWO, have vowed to be involved in the screening of all governorship aspirants for the gubernatorial election coming up later this year. The group said their screening will focus mainly on integrity, political antecedents, leadership capacity, vision for the well being of Anambrarians, credibility and values. Chairman of ANWO, Chief Sampson Umejidike Ifediba, stated this at the organisation’s general meeting at Ezinifite, Aguata Local Government Area of the state. Ifediba, who said the group has membership of over 7, 000 drawn from various political awards in the three senatorial zones of the state, said the era of distributing three cups of rice, branded T-Shirts and face-cap to the electorate is gone, as they will embark on massive sensitisation of the electorate on their rights and obligations before and after the scheduled election. Shedding light on their objectives, the chairman said; “We cannot continue to sell our birthright like Esau and expect to have a better tomorrow, therefore we must shine our eyes to ensure that a credible aspirant is voted into office to take us to the promised land come this governorship election in Anmbra State.” Ifediba, who disclosed that they have not endorsed any aspirant, contended that they are not in a hurry to do so, in order not to fall into the hands of undesirable elements who would take the state back to the land of suffering. nationalmirroronline
