The thief somehow managed to get away. His reprieve was however short-lived: he was caught up with when he got to Shell road. The motorcycle and the handbag he was carrying were identified by some young men. When they approached him, he sped off.
This time he was not as lucky. The youth chased him into the bush, caught him, battered him, and threw him into a pit, waiting for the police to arrive.
Some members of a vigilante group came to take the thief away, but onlookers refused and told them they were waiting for the police to come and carry him. When the police finally came, they saw him bleeding and said they could not ‘carry him the way he is’. They left. One among those who had assembled around the bleeding thief took a motorcycle and went to call the army. Upon arrival, one of the soldiers said,
“This is the guy I chased this morning with someone’s Hilux but I didn’t know where he diverted to with his motorcycle cos I wasn’t familiar with the route.”
