Renovation Works Begin At Ikeja Police College

Against the backdrop of the unscheduled visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to the nation’s premier Police College at Ikeja, Lagos recently, renovation work has commenced in the institution. A visit by our correspondent to the 78-year-old college on Monday revealed that the roofs of six buildings housing the hostels and dining halls facing the parade ground were undergoing repairs. Carpenters were seen removing the old plates and replacing them with new ones. Also, masons were not left out as they were seen engaging in mending and flooring the caved parts of the walls and floors. The Public Relations Officer of the College, Mr. Agu Jerry, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was not on seat to comment on the ongoing renovation works, as he was said to be on his annual leave and would resume in March. It would be recalled that Mr President’s visit to the college was informed by a video clipreleased by Channels Television, exposing the poor and dilapidated state of the hostels for the cadets. President Goodluck Jonathan who was returning from Burkina Faso where he had gone to attend Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) summit, had a stopped-over in Lagos to assess the reported deplorable conditions. The President who was accompanied by the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police zone 2, Onikan, Lagos, Mr. Mamman Tsafe, Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr. Umar Manko and military chiefs, queried the Commissioner of Police (CP) in-charge of the college, I. Yerima, over the poor living conditions of the trainees of the college.Source leadership
