An Osogbo High Court has granted a seven-day extension to Diamond Bank Plc to file its defence over an allegation that the bank “tampered” with the account of an Osogbo-based businessman, Mr Oluwamayowa Iseyemi, without his knowledge, consent and authority.
The mogul has dragged the bank to court over alleged illegal and untoward act of bank deduction he described as cheating and inhuman and prayed the court to help him right all wrongs committed by the bank.
Iseyemi, who stated that he applied for a personal loan of N3 million from the osogbo branch of the bank in February, 2009 in a statement of claims, said he has been enjoying credit facilities of the bank but alleged that “I have started to pay back the loan when, in 2011,,I “discovered a lot of manipulations by the defendants in my account.”

Infrastructure Bank leads $2bn funding for Lagos rail project
THE Infrastructure Bank Plc is to provide funds for the proposed $2 billion Lagos Red Line Rail Project that will commute two million passengers daily from Alagbado to Marina.
Hakeem Olopade, the bank’s executive director (Projects), disclosed this in Lagos over the weekend at the ongoing 3rd Economic Commission of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Investment Forum.
The Infrastructure Bank Plc is the chief promoter and financier of the rail project.
The funds, to be coordinated by the bank, will be sourced from the local and international markets.
Olopade said that the project had been in conception since five years ago and would be implemented by Marina Express Consortium to ease transportation in populated areas of Lagos.
According to him, the Red Line Rail project would stretch 37 kilometres with 36 pedestrian walkover bridges to end at the Marina.

Former chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, has described Nigeria’s democracy as one full of tyranny.
He said leadership failure had made the youth lose confidence in the government.
The ex-EFCC boss said the citizenry should know that they are in a sinking ship.
He added that Nigerians should all see themselves as politicians in the storm, who were bound to rescue the ship.
“The reality of modern Nigeria is one that challenges us to drop any other identity aside from that of citizen in our effort to rescue the ship of state from this stormy sea of chaos,” he said.
Ribadu said this in his address delivered at a public lecture organised by the Students’ Representative Council of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State on Saturday.

The true damage caused by sun beds, smoking and a lack of fruit and moisturisation in accelerating the ageing process emerged following research on 585 women in the UK, China and Spain.
The study, published yesterday, showed the factors influencing their skin were the same even taking into account the backgrounds and skin type of the women involved.
It also emerged 'lifestyle choices' often account for as much as 33 per cent of how old a woman looks.
Dr Andrew Mayes, who led the study for Simple skincare, said: 'We already knew genetics accounted for about 50 per cent of how old people look, but we didn't know how much would be accounted for by their lifestyles.

Sad! Corpses litter Maiduguri as Boko Haram, soldiers kill 29 in two days

Some Maiduguri Youth have formed anti-Boko Haram vigilante.
At least 16 suspected Boko Haram members were killed in separate incidents by security personnel in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital in the last 48 hours; while the sect’s members allegedly shot dead 13 civilians in the troubled city, sources said.
PREMIUM TIMES reporter on Saturday saw decomposing corpses of eight people, believed to be members of the Boko Haram. The corpses were dumped in a ditch near Biu road bridge of Maiduguri even as residents of the area said the victims died on the spot after a shootout between them and soldiers at about 10:30 p.m. on Thursday.

On Wednesday May 22nd 2013, Forbes released its annual list of 100 most Powerful Women in the world and Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr Okonjo Iweala has made the list again. She is ranked 83rd, moving from 81st position to 83rd.

President Goodluck Jonathan has told the leadership of the National Assembly that he will not sign the 2013 budget.
The leadership of the Senate, that of House of Representatives and officials of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government (MDAs) will meet at 2pm today to reconcile faulty and bogus allocations in the budget.
The meeting will hold at the Senate complex. The N4.987 trillion budget was passed by both chambers of the federal legislature on December 19, 2012. It was transmitted to the President for assent on January 14, this year.

Also, N7.5 billion is budgeted for the construction of two city gates. Out of the N5.7 billion earmarked for procurement of equipment and other essentials, N2.9 billion will be spent to sweep and provide sanitation for the city.

Justice Abubakar Talba, the Federal High Court, Abuja, judge who sentenced John Yusufu, former director in the Police Pension Office, to two years in prison with an option of N250,000 fine on each of the three counts, breached an agreement reached by parties in the case.
In the controversial ruling delivered on January 28, Mr. Talba sentenced Yusufu, who pleaded guilty to three of 20 counts charges bordering on embezzlement of over N23 billion, to two years in prison but gave the accused person an option of fine. The ruling drew anger from many Nigerians, including legal experts, who believe that granting an option of fine for such a monumental fraud would encourage corruption by public officers.
