Recruitment Saga: Moro Clears Air on the N1,000 Processing Fee

Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro, has clarified issues concerning the controversy generated by the imposition of N1,000 processing fee on the applicants, in the ongoing recruitment exercise into the Nigerian Immigration (NIS).
This is coming as some aggrieved personnel within the parastatal questioned the rationale behind the fee, alleging that about N6 billion should have been generated with an estimated six million or more applicants.
Moro, in a statement signed yesterday by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. George Udoh, said the fee was charged by the consulting firm handling the recruitment exercise for administrative purposes.
The minister, in the statement titled: “Setting the Record Straight”, said there were some misrepresentations about his position on the N1,000 processing fee charged for every applicant applying for a job in NIS, which is one of the para–military outfits under the leadership of the Minister.

Former chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, has described Nigeria’s democracy as one full of tyranny.

He said leadership failure had made the youth lose confidence in the government.

The ex-EFCC boss said the citizenry should know that they are in a sinking ship.

He added that Nigerians should all see themselves as politicians in the storm, who were bound to rescue the ship.

“The reality of modern Nigeria is one that challenges us to drop any other identity aside from that of citizen in our effort to rescue the ship of state from this stormy sea of chaos,” he said.

Ribadu said this in his address delivered at a public lecture organised by the Students’ Representative Council of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State on Saturday.

Man Gunned Down By Drunken Cops

A 46-year old man, Eze Okoro, has been shot dead by drunken policemen in front of his house  at 1, Oguntolu Street, Ijaiye, Ojokoro area, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria. But the police have denied taking part in his murder. The policemen, according to sources, had been drinking for about six hours at a hotel nearby before they gunned down the man while he was enjoying evening breeze in front of his house after work .

Ekiti deputy governor goes on medical leave

Deputy governor of the western Nigerian state of Ekiti, Mrs. Funmilayo Olayinka, has proceeded on a three-month leave following her indisposition. A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Mr Olayinka Oyebode, on Monday stated that the deputy governor would spend the period to attend to her health condition. The statement was silent on the nature of the ailment.
