78-year-old Mariana Ong’ango Ololo, a new pupil at Obambo Primary School, is not only the oldest pupil in her class, the grandmother is also the oldest pupil in the school. Ololo, who hails from Siaya county, reportedly showed up at the school unannounced on 14 May, in a school uniform with a shaved head and accompanied by her 56-year-old son George.The school principal Joseph Muloand told the Daily Nation, “It is a unique case. We have to lay down a strategy of handling such an elderly pupil.” Ololo has already missed classes on several occasions due to her poor health.

Owner of Abuja’s Wonderland Amusement Park, Amigo Supermarket linked to terrorism

The JTF said Fauzi Fawad is on the run.

Nigerian security agencies have linked a co-owner of two major ongoing businesses in the nation’s capital as a ring leader in a major terrorist operation in the country.

In a statement by the spokesman of the Joint Task Force in Kano, Ikedichi Iweha, Fauzi Fawad, the co-owner of Amigo Supermarket and Wonderland Amusement Park, was named as a member of a Lebanese Hezbollah terrorist cell in Nigeria.

Wonderland is Abuja’s biggest and most popular amusement park, while Amigo is one of the largest supermarkets in the Nigerian capital.

The JTF said Mr. Fawad’s name was mentioned by “all those arrested,” for being in possession of heavy weapons, and other terrorism related activities.

Mr. Fawad is now on the run, the JTF said.

Sasha denies rumours of Storm Records exit

Meanwhile, cyber bullying had nothing to do with Goldie's death. I remember speaking with her about it and she dusted it aside, laughing. She said people will always talk and she tries not to pay attention to all the talk and just live her life. In fact a week or so before she died she sent me her Grammy photos to put on my blog...if she was afraid of comments, I don't think she would do that.

So sad RIP: Smooth FM OAP and programmes director, Kirk Anthony, dies at 53

Jamaican born Smooth 98.1FM On-Air-Personality and Director of Programmes, Kirk Anthony Derrick has passed on. According to sources, Kirk collapsed a few hours after his show, The Kazbah, yesterday evening May 31 and was rushed to Reddington hospital in Victoria Island where he was pronounced dead. Cause of death will be known next week when the autopsy result comes out.

“For him being part of the Smooth 98.1FM family was the next chapter in his life and sadly, it was his last,” Smooth FM said in a press release.

Kirk relocated to Nigeria in 2009 to work at Smooth FM. He was 53 years old. He is survived by his wife and children. May his soul rest in peace, amen.

He has an exhibition coming up so yes, he has a career! CNN profiled the young budding photographer on Inside Africa yesterday and below is what they wrote about Lil Fuji...

While most children his age in Nigeria - and the rest of the world - are more concerned with their toys than a career, Onafujiri "Fuji" Remet has already embarked on his mission to become a professional photographer.

Proud dad Pius Kugbere Remet sent in these images of his talented young son posing with family and at work in Lagos.

Himself an artist and graphic designer, he says Fuji's inspiration came from the work of his creative family.

Little Fuji even has an exhibition coming up in Lagos on June 8. Not bad for a three-year-old.

A woman was stabbed to death a day before her wedding, according to police.

The pregnant Brooklyn, New York, woman was found stabbed to death in her apartment Saturday, a day before her wedding and two weeks before she was to give birth.

Vindalee Smith, 38, was lying bloodied on the floor of her home on East 94th Street in East Flatbush, with an open stab wound in the neck, sources said.
There were no signs of forced entry and no weapon was discovered in the basement apartment, where the mother of four children lived alone, sources said.

Sad: Widow, three daughters die after dinner

Tragedy struck yesterday in Umueze – Egbelu Nguru Community in Ngor-Opkala Local Government Area of Imo State when a middle-aged widow, Mrs. Gladys Nwosu, and three of her daughters died after eating dinner.

The three deceased girls are Chinelo, a 22-year-old final year student of the University of Nigeria, Amaka, a primary school pupil and Ijeoma, who has just sat for her Senior Secondary School examinations.

Two other children of the late Mrs. Nwosu, Njideka 18 and Chidera 20, who also partook in the dinner, are now lying critically ill at Umunaeke General Hospital, where the deceased have also been deposited in the mortuary.
