Governor Akpabio Fires Stewards Over N40million Missing At Governor's Lodge

Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State on Friday ordered the immediate firing of three stewards working in the governor's lodge in Asokoro, Abuja after it was discovered that bundles of mint-fresh dollar bills valued at more than $250,000 (N40 million) had gone missing from the governor's bedroom.
A senior bureaucrat in the state told SaharaReporters that the governor personally issued instructions for the firing of the stewards. “His Excellency found out on Wednesday during his visit to Abuja that four bundles of the foreign currency he left in his bedroom had been stolen while he was gone to a dinner with the president [Goodluck Jonathan] at the [Aso Rock] Villa,” said the source.

BREAKING NEWS: Gunmen Break Into Prison, 175 Inmates Freed

As a result of an attck on the Olokuta medium security prison in Akure by armed gunmen at 12.30 am today, 175 inmates were set free. The bandits set off explosives and broke in shooting sporadically into the air. The police re-arrested some of the escapees.

Reportedly, four persons were injured in the gun battle, but nobody have been killed.

According to Sahara Reporters, sources at the prison disclosed that the bandits made the aim of their 'operation' clear. "They came and were calling the names of people they want to set free,” one of them said. “There is this particular name from Edo state that they were calling simultaneously. I think

he is a prominent criminal in the prison. The name is from the Benin area".

I was going for a revival in Kaduna and God told me to go with somebody who knows about stroke. The man had to follow me to Kaduna. When I got to Kaduna, they told me one of my townsmen was sick and when I got to his place, God said I should not do anything though he was suffering. I got a room for him, paid his bills and left after praying for him. As I was returning to the church in Kaduna, I had the attack.

Thompson Oliha, Former Super Eagles midfielder, dies at 44

Former Super Eagles player, Thompson Oliha, has passed on. The midfielder, who was among the 1994 victorious Super Eagles' squad that won the Nations cup in Tunisia, died today Sunday, June 30 at 4.05 am at the Yusjib industrial medicare hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State, Super Sport reports.

Confirming his death in Ilorin, Doctor Yusuf Addulraheem told Super Sport that Oliha was brought to the hospital at the time when there was nothing he could do to resuscitate him.

“I feel so sad to confirm to you that Thompson Oliha is dead and by the time his wife brought him here, the body was completely lifeless. His wife Irish Oliha told me that he slumped in the toilet before rushing him to hospital and there was nothing we could do to save him,”

Until his death, Oliha was the head coach of the Kwara Football Academy (KFA) in Ilorin, Kwara State. He was 44 years old. May his soul rest in peace...Amen.

2 Pakistani girls shot dead for making a video of themselves dancing in the rain

Two teenage sisters, 16 year old Noor Basra and 15 year old Noor Sheza (both pictured above) were shot dead at their home in the town of Chilas, in Pakistan after a video showing the two girls laughing and dancing in the rain was circulated via mobile phones.

Apparently dancing with your sibling in the rain and filming it is a crime punishable by death in the Northern region of Gilgit. The video caused an outrage in the town and a few days later, five men invaded the girls home and shot them dead - for - wait for it - 'tarnishing their family's name'. Their mother was also shot dead.

The girls' step-brother, a man named Khutore, is being accused of arranging their murder because heallegedly wanted to 'restore the family's honour'. The sisters' other brother filed a case against him and the four other alleged accomplices who are now on the run. The police are investigating the case.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Friday said controversial Nigerian actress, Tonto Dikeh, risks a minimum of 15 years in jail for encouraging the consumption of hemp.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has announced a newly adopted strategy that would ensure that any person caught using the mobile phone while driving, would no longer be fined but immediately taken to court and jailed.

Corp Marshal, FRSC, Mr. Osita Chidoka said other offences like speed driving, dangerous overtaking and overloading would equally attract court action instead of the usual fines.

The FRSC boss, who was speaking at a news conference in Abuja, said these new measures are part of a newly launched campaign to reduce the increased spate of road crashes in the country.

Last Saturday came like any other day, but alas, in the evening of the same day, the cold hands of death snatched away a prominent Nigerian, the President-General, Association of Nigerian Market Women and Men, Alhaja Abibat Mogaji, mother of the former Lagos State Governor and National leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The event occured at her residence, No 10 Sunday Adigun Street, Alausa, Ikeja.

She died at the ripe age of 96 and was later buried on Sunday, at the Vaults and Garden Cemetery, Ikoyi, according to Islamic rites.

The burial witnessed the crème  de la crème of the society who thronged the Lagos Island Central Mosque, Vault and Garden Cemetery and the LTV ground, Ikeja, venue of the reception where she was described as icon of achievements.

Mogaji in her life time was a frontline leader of Lagos State Market Women Association who dedicated larger part of her adult life to protecting the rights of market men and women.

BENIN CITY – Last Monday June 24, 2013, Benin City residents woke up without knowing that a hang man was in town to snuff life out of four death row prisoners: Chima Ejiofor, Daniel Nsofor, Osarerenmwenda Aigbonkhan and Richard Igagu.

Their journey to death began on 26th September 2012, when Governor Adams Oshiomhole signed the death warrants of two of the convicted criminals, Daniel Nsofor and Aigbonkhia; while former Governor Lucky Igbinedion signed that of two others.

The prison where the gallows was situated is along the busy Sapele Road and while the environment may look peaceful, on that fateful day, the prison wardens and the hang man were busy organizing the execution of the convicts.

Ojukwu’s ‘Son’ drags family to court, demands N100m only

The legal tussle within the family of the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu shows no sign of abating with Debe Odumegwu-Ojukwu suing the family for N100 million for refusing to allow him perform the funeral rites of the Biafran war lord.
Debe, a former police officer, is urging the Federal High Court, Lagos, to stop the family’s “serial and sustained threats to maim or kill him.”
The Igbo leader died in November 2011.
Mr. Debe said that the refusal to allow him perform the dust-to-dust funeral rites of the late Odumegwu-Ojukwu is ‘illegal and unlawful” and amounts to a violation of his rights.
